Zen Bound and Zen Bound 2 for the iPad and iPod touch is a great game for someone that is learning to use the iDevices touch controls. You start with a block of wood that has a string attached to it. Using the touch screen, you manipulate the block of wood to get the string wrapped around it. As the string touches new areas of the wood it paints it. The object of the game is to paint as much of the wood as possible with as little string as possible. The game progressively gets harder with different shaped blocks of wood and shorter and shorter amounts of string.

The Star Walk and NASA apps are two excellent sources that can take you to the final frontier!

Star Walk is an awesome app that comes in versions for the iPad and the iPod. The app enables you to point your device at the sky, day or night, and find out what stars, constellations, planets and satellites are in that location in real time. Touch an object to zoom in and get more information. Very cool!

The NASA app collects an extensive selection of news, images and video from various online NASA sources. You can get NASA mission info, live streaming of NASA TV, NASAimages.org and NASA video all at your fingertips.

Frog Dissection

Frog Dissection is a greener alternative for teaching dissection in the classroom. This iPad app is suitable for middle-school students who are learning about organs and organ systems in science class. Students can try dissecting a virtual specimen with all the trappings that come with the real procedure-minus the mess. The app comes with all the dissection tools and detailed instructions to complete the procedure. Once dissection is complete, the frog’s organs are exposed for further study with vivid 3D images to will help students visualize the internal organs. The app also has information on the different types of frogs, frogs’ life cycle, anatomical comparison of frogs with humans and an interactive quiz.
